Brooklyn Studios for Dance-Residency:

June 5 – July 1, 2017

Brooklyn Studios for Dance (BkSD) is a studio space and social platform with dance at its core. Founded in 2015,  BkSD curates pedagogy and faculty in a rotating curriculum, using studio as a connector of cultures and communities.

“It is our goal to build and share our model with other regions and creative communities. We are excited to partner with Spectrum Dance Theater to bring a cross-section of BkSD teaching & performing artists to Seattle for a 4-week program called BkSD-West.”

BkSD will coordinate a group of artists to offer their creative practices; sharing methods for training and composing, presenting in-process and complete performance works, and facilitating discussions on the role of contemporary artists and the impact of art-making. We hope to work across multiple platforms in Greater Seattle during our visit.

The School of Spectrum Dance Theater’s Summer Intensive is aimed at nurturing the developing dance student. This three-week program is designed to foster a deeper understanding and rapid growth of the classical and contemporary techniques most sought after in today’s concert dance artist. Classes focus on the bedrock of technical forms including Ballet, Graham, Horton, and Byrd, while offering augmented training in World Dance forms, Jazz, and Pilates.

The level structure is designed to facilitate the most dynamic classroom environment.

For those currently enrolled in The School of Spectrum Dance Theater’s year-round program, Intermediate equates roughly to Levels III-V and Advanced to Levels V-VII. As there is some variation on skill and ability, all students are assessed to ensure proper placement, and may be moved between levels if necessary to ensure the most progress.
