Ballet

The Ballet Program draws elements from the various international methods of European classical dance training – Russian (Vaganova), American (Balanchine), Danish (Bourneville), French, English (Royal Academy derived from the Ceccheti/Italian method) – to create our own unique version of American classicism.  We place a strong emphasis on body placement, correct and proper execution of movement, musicality, rhythmic acumen, coordination, clarity of the body’s form and proportions while moving, simplicity of demeanor and an unmannered decorum and deportment.

Classes

Pre-Ballet – ages 5-7 years:

Exploring Ballet skills and technique through fun dance games, dance stories, and simple barre work, makes learning Ballet more accessible to the very young dancers. Ballet shoes, leotard, and pink tights are required. Class meets one time per week.

Ballet I-VII:

Exercises done at the barre develop strength, coordination, flexibility, balance, alignment, and musicality. Stretches are given at each level to develop increased flexibility in legs and hips for better turn out and higher extensions. From basic ballet directions and positions in the beginning levels to long adagios, complicated jumps, multiple turns, and pirouettes in the upper levels the students progress through the ballet levels at a pace that is age and level appropriate. Students are required to take each level at least two years unless approved by the instructor and school director. Classes are taught in a supportive and nurturing learning environment. Placement is required for levels II-VII.

Class meets:

Ballet I: One time per week

Ballet II & III: Two times per week

Ballet IV & V: Three times per week

Ballet VI: Four times per week

Ballet VII: Five times per week
